Aleksander B. Kotov is a highly qualified specialist in the regional and structural geology, geology of Precambrian complexes, geochronology, isotope geology and geodynamics, petrology of igneous and metamorphic processes. He has extensive experience in field geological research of the Kola Peninsula, Karelia, Eastern Siberia, Mongolia, USA, Canada, Australia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Scotland, and China.

The main scientific achievements of A. Kotov are connected with the solution of the problems of the formation and evolution of the continental crust in Central and East Asia.
