Основные научные интересы А.Н. Диденко связаны с изучением палео- и современной геодинамики, палеомагнетизма и петромагнетизма. К наиболее значимым научным результатам можно отнести: 1) создание петромагнитной модели океанической литосферы на основе изучения петромагнитных свойств современной океанической коры и офиолитовых комплексов; 2) получение прямого доказательства справедливости гипотезы Вайна-Метьюза и ее применимости к палеозойской океанической коре; 3) установление террейновой природы ряда геологических комплексов Корякского нагорья на основе палеомагнитного изучения пород их слагающих; 4) крупное монографическое обобщение (совместно с С.А. Куренковым и В.А. Симоновым), посвященное всестороннему анализу палеоспрединговых комплексов Урало-Монгольского покровно-складчатого пояса – «Геодинамика палеоспрединга», удостоенное премии им. А.Д. Архангельского РАН; 5) под его руководством получены первые надежные палеомагнитные данные по палеопротерозою Сибирского кратона. В настоящее время занимается изучением палео- и современной геодинамики, глубинного строения Сихотэ-Алиня и прилегающих территорий.
