Основные научные интересы Е.В. Склярова ориентированы на изучение взаимосвязи процессов метаморфизма и тектоники, геологии и петрологии метаморфических комплексов, геологии и петрологии офиолитов. К наиболее значимым научным результатам следует отнести выявление закономерностей состава и строения высокобарических поясов Центральной Азии (два глаукофансланцевых пояса были обнаружены им впервые) и распространения офиолитов Южной Сибири и Северной Монголии, выявление и изучение в Южной Сибири комплексов метаморфических ядер – своеобразных геологических структур внутриконтинентального растяжения, выявление и изучение роев неопротерозойских базитовых даек, имеющих важное значение для реконструкции геодинамической эволюции Сибирского кратона и Центрально-Азиатского складчатого пояса. Эти работы являются пионерными в России.

Является соавтором открытия девяти новых минералов, четыре из которых относятся к породообразующим группам: наталиит – ванадиевый пироксен, магнезиокулсонит – ванадиевый аналог магнезиохромита, хромфиллит-хром – аналог мусковита, ванадиодравит – ванадиевый турмалин.
