K.Zh. Seminsky is a specialist in tectonophysics of faults. The main theoretical result of his research is the conclusion that the continental extension, compression and strike-slip fault zones have the same basic trends in internal structure formation (i.e. staging, inhomogeneties in the destroyed substrate and components of the structural paragenesis) because these trends are determined by kind, kinetics and way of propagation of shear deformation progressing therein. He has proposed a tectonophysical model for the fault zone formation and a universal paragenesis for the second-order fractures including the groups of precursory, pinnate and accompanying fractures.

The practical importance of K.Zh. Seminsky’s research arises from working out of the complex characteristics for determining the stages of fault development, providing a tectonophysical classification of their related structures of ore deposits, and developing a technique for special mapping of the fault zones based on basic analysis of the commonly found unpronounced fracturing. The technique allows delineating the fault zones and defining dynamic settings of their formation and zonality type for internal structure from the pattern of spatial distribution of almost perpendicular triple joint systems that form the basis of fracture networks in normal faults, strike-slips, thrusts, and reverse faults.
