I. GENERAL

The main topics of the Online Publication ‘Geodynamics & Tectonophysics’ cover a wide range of problems of paleogeodynamics, modern geodynamics, structural geology, tectonophysics and experimental tectonics. Its publications are focused on genetic relationships of the geodynamic processes of the past and the present, synchronism in the development of geological structures and their modern spatial and temporal patterns, and conditions for the occurrence of processes during the evolution of the lithospheric structures, which are important as a practical matter.

It publishes materials submitted by graduate students, applicants, doctoral students, specialists and experts in this field of research.

Original articles, reviews and book reviews are accepted for publication in this Online Publication. Short communications containing the data/results/information that is meaningful, yet not requiring a detailed description, are also acceptable.

Publication of articles is free of charge for the authors.

Evidence of publication is actual publication of a manuscript in one of the issues of the Online Publication ‘Geodynamics & Tectonophysics’ (in PDF format) on its official Internet site Author rights are protected as per the relevant international rules.

VI. PROCEDUES IN THE ELECTRONIC FORMAT

Authors submitting a manuscript must confirm the following:
SUBMISSION PREPARATION CHECKLIST

VII. ONLINE PUBLICATION – AUTHOR INTERFACE

After a manuscript has been uploaded to the editorial portfolio and technical confirmation is received that the submitted materials comply with the formal technical requirements, this manuscript is considered to have been received by the Editorial Board.
The Editorial Board communicates with the responsible (contact) author. However, if the team of authors wishes, electronic messages can be sent to all authors’ email addresses given in the Author Information Note.
All incoming manuscripts are preliminary reviewed to check for compliance with the formal requirements. At this stage, a manuscript may be sent back to the author(-s) for revision with a request to eliminate errors or add missing data. Furthermore, a manuscript may be rejected at this stage, if it does not fit the purpose of the Online Publication ‘Geodynamics & Tectonophysics’, or lacks originality, or has a low scientific value.
After the preliminary review, the editor-in-charge forwards the manuscript to a reviewer and specify the review timeline.
Manuscripts submitted to the Editorial Board follow a one-way ‘blind’ peer review procedure.
In controversial cases, the editor may involve several specialists, as well as the chief editor, in the review process.
Upon receiving a positive opinion of the reviewer, the manuscript is submitted to the editor to prepare for publication.
If the decision is taken that the manuscript needs revision/correction, the reviewer’s comments are transmitted to the author. The author is given two months to close out the comments. If during this period the author fails to inform the Editorial Board of his/her planned actions in this respect, the manuscript is removed from the publication line.
If the decision is taken that the manuscript is not accepted for publication, this decision of the Editorial Board is conveyed in writing to the author.
The final manuscript layout is sent to the responsible (contact) author of this manuscript accepted for publication, and he/she is obliged to check it. His/her response is expected within three business days. If there is no response from the author, the manuscript layout is considered approved.

VIII. PROCEDURE FOR RECONSIDERATION OF EDITOR / REVIEWER DECISIONS

Should the author disagree with the opinion of the reviewer and/or editor or with any their comments, he/she can challenge the decision. In such case, the author should:
- Correct the manuscript according to the justified comments of the reviewers and editors, and
- Clearly state his/her position on this issue.
The editors shall encourage resubmission of manuscripts that are potentially acceptable, but were
rejected because major revision or additional data were required, explaining precisely what needs to be corrected in the manuscript to make it acceptable for publication.

IX. ACTIONS OF THE EDITORIAL BOARD IN CASE OF IDENTIFICATION OF PLAGIARISM, DATA FABRICATION AND FALSIFICATION

Should any author misconduct, plagiarism, data fabrication and falsification be identified, the Editorial Board shall be guided by the rules of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Under the "unscrupulous behavior" set even edition of "Geodynamics and Tectonophysics" understands any action of the scientist, including improper handling of objects of study or deliberate manipulation of scientific information, in which it ceases to reflect the observed study, as well as the behavior of the scientist that does not conform to accepted ethical and scientific standards.

The Online Publication ‘Geodynamics & Tectonophysics’ understands the term ‘misconduct’ as applying to any action of a researcher that involves mistreatment of research subjects or purposeful manipulation of the scientific information such that it no longer reflects the actual observations. This term also means such behaviour of a researcher, which falls short of good ethical and scientific standards.

The ‘research misconduct’ does not include honest errors and honest differences in the design, execution, interpretation and judgment in evaluating research methods or results, and misconduct not related to scientific processes.

X. ERROR CORRECTION AND MANUSCRIPT RETRACTION

Should any error/mistake be found in the text of the manuscript, which affects its perception, but does not distort the presented research results, such error/mistake can be corrected by replacing the PDF file of this manuscript and indicating the error/mistake in the file itself and on the relevant page on the website.
In the event that errors are found in the text of the manuscript, which distort the research results, and in case of identification of plagiarism, author(-s) misconduct, data falsification and/or fabrication, such manuscript may be retracted. Manuscript retraction can be initiated by the Editorial Board, author, organization or individual.
A retracted article shall be labelled as ‘Retracted’, and information on the reason for its retraction shall be placed on the corresponding page. The databases in which the journal is indexed shall be notified of the retraction.

XI. THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE SOFTWARE IN SCIENTIFIC WRITING

The increasing use of artificial intelligence software, including for scientific writing, encouraged the editorial board of the “Geodynamics & Tectonophysics” online edition to concentrate the authors’ attention on the following issues.

1.    ChatGPT or any similar chat-bot must not on any account be identified as the author of the article or as any other person contributed thereto. Artificial intelligence software or tools do not meet the authorship requirements since they either cannot be responsible for the work submitted, declare that there is or there is no conflict of interest, or manage copyrighted works.
2.    There is no prohibition on the use of chat-bots or any other artificial intelligence software in scientific writing. In some cases they can be helpful for text editing, source material search, or data collection and analysis. However, it should be taken into account that chat-bots often provide wrong information referring to facts that never existed or publications that do not exist, so the authors need to check the fetched data.
3.    In the case, if scientific writing involves using artificial intelligence software, this fact should be mentioned in the article. The authors always have to indicate the software version and the date it was used.
4.    It is also important to remember that the author is the only one responsible for the final version of the article submitted for publication in the “Geodynamics and Tectonophysics” online edition, despite what artificial intelligence software he used and how large the amount of use was. The editorial board of the “Geodynamics and Tectonophysics” online edition uses Moodle Plagiarism Checker discerning originality from copy and paste.
The “Geodynamics & Tectonophysics” online edition shares the position of the international publishing community concerning the use of artificial intelligence software in scientific writing, set forth in the following documents: Chatbots, Generative AI, and Scholarly Manuscripts, Artificial intelligence (AI) in decision making

The “Geodynamics & Tectonophysics” online edition uses "NeuroAssistant Scientific Publishing" at all stages of the manuscript publication process. NeuroAssistant is proposed to be used by authors in the analysis of articles, by reviewers, and by editors in preparing manuscripts for publication.

"NeuroAssistant Scientific Publishing" combines the following services:
•    Bibliography writing service
•    Keyword Recommendations
•    Citation Search Service
•    Qualitative article design assessment tool

The reviewer and the editor of the “Geodynamics & Tectonophysics” receive a summarized report on the use of NeuroAssistant services by the author. The reviewer has to estimate the feasibility of using NeuroAssistant recommendations. The editor has to mention in the final version of the article that the preparation of the article for publication involved the use of artificial intelligence software services.
Only a human can interpret the results of work of NeuroAssistant services and make a decision on the feasibility of corrections and additions proposed.
The author, the reviewer and the editor may but need not accept all corrections and additions proposed by NeuroAssistant. The author, the reviewer and the editor are responsible for the use of corrections proposed by NeuroAssistant.
